Modalities
Ancient Modern Therapies employs a number of modalities to assist in your growth and healing journeys. These include Kundalini Yoga Kriyas, Yogic Asanas, Pranayamas, Yogic Meditations, Healthy Lifestyle Habits, Dream Tending, Ancestral Healing, Emotional Liberation, SuperHealth Techniques to Break Habits and Addictive Behaviors, and Acupressure. We utilize one or more according to each client’s individual challenges, interests, and goals.
Kundalini Yoga: Kriyas (Yoga Sets), Pranayamas (Breathwork), Meditations
Kriya
Kriyas are “Yoga sets” that include a combination of asanas, pranayamas and meditations – Kriyas are the actions taken through these practices for a specific benefit – there are thousands of Kriyas available to assist with healing. Some Kriyas are short (15 minutes) while others are longer (e.g., for an hour).
Pranayama
Pranayama is frequently called “breathwork” – it consists of directing, expanding, controlling and managing your breathing – a pranayama that is well-known in the West is the Lamaze Method during childbirth – pranayamas, like asanas, are a part of Yoga kriya and meditations, and they are also used alone.
Yogic Asana
Asanas are “postures” or “placement/ movement of the body or a body part” – they are part of a Kriya and of a meditation, but an asana (or series of asanas) can be used aside from a full Kriya to facilitate healing and well-being.
Yogic Meditation
Meditation is used to increase awareness; to calm and direct the mind; to clear the subconscious of unhealthy thought processes; to allow moments of “being” in this human existence apart from incessantly “doing” – there are countless numbers of meditations – they all have general benefits (listed above) as well as benefits specific to each meditation.
Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Classes
Each Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Class is theme-based. They each include pranayama (breath work/ breath direction), mantra (mind projection through listening and/or chanting), Kriyas (a set of Yoga postures and movements designed for specific purposes), and meditations.
Sujjan Saroop’s classes have been described as both energizing and relaxing; as supportive and affirming; as safe and secure; and as freeing… in a place that students can learn about themselves.
Sujjan Saroop witnesses many changes in his students – improved clarity of thinking and emotional well-being; enhanced intuition and creativity; and deeper connectedness to Self, others, community, planet and Universe. He witnesses profound, lasting healing. And he sees students learning to live more authentically, joyfully and lovingly.
All classes are conducted on-line via Zoom. Click here for current dates and times. For students who are not able to join live – or those who wish to repeat a class – each class is recorded and available for viewing for one (1) week after the live class Note: the recording is only of Sujjan Saroop – it does not include any of the students who attend live (thus, no need to worry about what you “look like”!).
Dream Tending
Humans have utilized their dreams for gaining insight, for healing, and for increasing creativity for as long as humans have been dreaming!
Dream Tending is a revolutionary paradigm that uses our dreams and deep imagination to become attuned to the powerful messages of our dream life. It increases one’s creativity – whether we consider the creativity of being an artist or the creativity of solving and resolving our challenges and opportunities – and whether these have presented themselves in dreams or imagination during one’s waking or one’s sleeping life.
Sujjan Saroop has completed both the Level One and Level two Certificate programs of Stephen Aizenstat PhD’s Dream Tending program and is excited to tend the dreams for persons interested in exploring this dynamic and enlightening paradigm.
Ancestral Healing
Ancestral Healing revolves around the concepts that we inherit traits from our ancestors. These traits are driven not only by genetics and epigenetics, but also from the direct life experiences of our ancestors, as well as the family and personal interpretations and related stories. Our inherited traits are both life-enhancing and life-challenging.
In Ancestral Healing, we consciously engage our ancestors and ancestral guides by exploring associated family and personal stories (and dreams) and we examine their impacts on us both historically and currently. We then explore how negative intergenerational behaviors and experiences can be resolved and healed for the benefit of ourselves, our families, our ancestors and our culture. We emphasize and utilize, when known, our ancestors’ and ancestral guides’ strengths and positive attributes that support us.
Emotional Liberation
Emotional Liberation, as taught by GuruMeher and based on his book “Senses of the Soul”, is the revolutionary concept that our emotions are an integral part of our sensory system. We are all familiar with our physical senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. Emotional Liberation teaches us that our heavy emotions – Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Desire, Grief, Guilt, Shame – are providing sensory input.
This Emotional Liberation technique teaches us how to become aware of those sensory inputs; how to listen to the deep, often hidden, messages; and how to develop and complete an action plan that takes us out of the “commotion of emotion” and into balance and harmony.
Sujjan Saroop completed GuruMeher’s 10-Month Emotional Liberation Course in 2023 and uses the techniques both personally and in his teachings.
SuperHealth Techniques to Break Habits and Addictive Behaviors
SuperHealth Techniques to Break Habits and Addictive Behaviors, as taught by Mukta Kaur, is a professional training to help practitioners and students to understand the origins of behavior and habits. It is based on both western, allopathic science and Yogic philosophies. Practitioners and clients are able to identify habits and addictive behaviors; to come to a compassionate understanding of their evolution and impacts; and to develop strategies to interrupt the habits and addictive behaviors with healthy, uplifting behaviors.
Sujjan Saroop completed Mukta Kaur’s immersion certificate program in 2022 and has subsequently taught and used this to his students and used the it with clients.
Healthy Lifestyle Habits
Ancient Modern Therapy clients have access to both modern and esoteric lifestyle practices to support each person’s growth and healing journey. A critical aspect of this is to help with creating more harmony and balance between work-nonwork commitments and goals.
Suggested recommendations are varied and include specific exercise/ movement regimens; Kundalini Yoga kriyas (Yoga sets); relaxation techniques; sleep hygiene; eco-therapeutic modalities; dietary adjustments; detoxification fasting regimens; techniques and rituals to help a loved one make their final transition from their physical body; hydrotherapy; and communicating effectively and consciously.
Acupressure
Note for clients meeting in-person: the State of Florida does not recognize Yoga Therapy as a licensed profession; therefore we do not physically touch clients. For acupressure, we demonstrate and show clients how to self-administer Acupressure.
Both Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine teach us that energy flows throughout our physical body. This energy is referred to as Prana in the Yogic realm; in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is called Qi (pronounced “chee”). Prana, or Qi, is the Life Force that animates our physical body. Yoga and TCM describe channels, or meridian lines, within the physical body through which the Prana/ Qi flows. Stagnation, or blockage, of one or more of these channels impedes the flow of energy and leads to illness. Yoga’s asanas and pranayamas simulate the flow of the vital energies through the body’s channels.
Fortunately, TCM also describes specific points along the various meridian lines on which one can apply very gentle pressure of one’s finger (or fingers). This facilitates the flow of energy and thereby allowing the body to heal and reducing symptoms. The effects are beyond just the physical body, as acupressure has been increasingly shown to be a very effective adjunct support in the treatment of non-body illnesses.
Sujjan Saroop, as part of his Yoga Therapy training at Kundalini Medicine, has learned Acupressure and has witnessed its usefulness in clients.
Manifesting Your Destiny
What do you want from this life of yours? What do you want to do – how do you want to feel – who do you want to be… in the next 6 months – year – 2-3 years – and decade? What virtues do you hold dear? How are your relationships – with your partner, family and friends; with both the work you do and those with whom you work; with your day-to-day existence; with your Creator; and with your Self?
What does a “life well lived” mean to you? And… to what extent does your definition describe You and your Life?
We all know people who live lives of fate. Their futures seem predetermined. Their beliefs, their thoughts and speech, and their actions create their predeterminations. They are resigned to a life that is happening to them, not for them.
And we also know people who live Lives of Destiny. They live with commitment, verve and determination (not pre-determination). They manifest a life that happens for them, not to them. In fact, Life for such people happens through them.
Sujjan Saroop believes everyone can live a Life of Great Destiny. While some are able to accomplish this without forethought, most of us need help, and everyone can use an adept guide. Sujjan Saroop has extensive professional and personal experience in helping others in Manifesting their Destiny. “Manifesting Your Destiny” is a multi-step process that includes deep reflection; creative visualization; generation of one’s “Personal Manifesto”; development of plans of action; periodic reviews for self-accountability and redirecting.
